Abstract

The background of this research is the lack of understanding of class XI students of SMA An-Nuriyyah Bumiayu about grammar skills, especially the simple past tense material and low student motivation in learning. The purpose of this study is to determine whether peer tutoring techniques can improve students' grammar skills in teaching simple past tense to the eleventh grade of SMA An-Nuriyyah. Research design in this research is experimental research. The technique of data collection is using observation, test, and documentation. The technique of data analysis is using independent sample T-test. The results of the calculation of the hypothesis test is tvalue of 4.590 with a significance level of 5% or 0.05 then the ttable of 2.042 so that the tvalue> ttable. It can be concluded that the average grammar ability of the experimental class students is better than the control class. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of peer tutoring techniques is effective in improving students' grammar skills in simple past tense material.
