Abstract

The objectives of the study are to describe the students’ problems in reading narrative text (Indonesian folklore) and the teacher’s solution in overcoming the problems on the tenth grade students of SMA An-Nuriyyah Bumiayu in the academic year 2015/2016. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The data were taken from event, informant, and document. In collecting data, the writer used observation, interview and documentation. The technique for analyzing data were data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The result of this study was; in the teaching and learning process, the students more active and interested in teaching and leaning process. The teaching and learning process results werestill many students do not understand in learning narrative text because the students’ have lack vocabularies, still have difficulties to analyze the text, identification the text, and make conclusion in narrative text (Indonesian folklore) and there are some problems of the students’ reading in narrative text (Indonesian folklore), it could be seen from the exercises, test result, and their pleasure to follow the teaching-learning process, the students problems are indentification the topic of reading the text, misunderstanding meaning of the text, dificulties in making conclusion of the narrative teks (Indonesian folklore), and than to overcome the problems faced by the students the teacher used some method and technique to make students understand in narrative teks material and others material.
