Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out whether Index Card Match Method was effective to improve the students’ writing in descriptive text or not. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Bumiayu, Brebes regency in the academic year 2015/2016. The number of the subjects was 64 students. The samples of the study were class VIII A as experimental class which consisted of 32 students and class VIII C as control class which consisted of 32 students. The design of this study was true experimental study. The writer used tests that consisted of pre and post-test in collecting the data and used quantitative method to analyze the data. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) 16.0 program. After the data had been collected using tests the writer found the Independent Samples Test between control and experimental class, the score sig was 0.660 (more than 0.05) and the score from t-test and Equal Variance Assumed was 0.000 (less than 0.05). It means that both of classes had same variant but had different achievement. It could be seen from comparing the means both of the classes; it was found that the mean of experimental class was 76.75 which were higher than control class was 67.68. Then the result of the mean score of post-test of experimental class was 76.75 in which were higher than pre-test 63.75. For that reason, it could be concluded that Index Card Match Method was effective to improve the students’ writing skill in descriptive text on the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Bumiayu in the academic year 2015/2016.
